How do I know what service my BMW needs?
Your BMW will be fitted with either Condition Based Servicing (CBS) or the Service Interval Indicator (SII) depending on the age of the car. Both systems use symbols in your dashboard to alert you when your service is required.
Condition Based Servicing (CBS) is fitted to newer BMW vehicles. CBS monitors the service components on your car and only alerts you when components are worn and attention is required.
When your BMW does require service you’ll be alerted via an icon on your dashboard. Your BMW service data is also stored in your key which we can retrieve at reception to quickly identify your service needs.
Earlier BMW vehicles use Service Interval Indicators (SII) which monitors the mileage of the car, and time since the last service. Dashboard icons are illuminated when a servicing is required.
Of course, if you’re unsure of the service history of your BMW then our team and Saffron Autos will be pleased to recommend the best course of action to keep your car in tip-top condition.
Once your BMW service is completed we’ll update your service record maintaining your warranty and the future resale value of the car.
The benefits of servicing your BMW
Keeping you Safe: Servicing your BMW regularly can highlight potential problems before they become serious.
Maintaining your BMW: Servicing preserves your car and can prolong the life and reliability of your vehicle, keeping it in tip-top condition.
Keeping you on the Road: Although servicing your vehicle is not a legal requirement, getting your car regularly serviced increases the chance of your car passing its MOT. Regular servicing ensures your BMW is safe, reliable and in a roadworthy condition.
Saving you Money: A service can identify issues early on that could save you pounds in the future. A smoother running engine and quality tyres can also save you money at the petrol station by improving your miles per gallon.
What happens during a BMW service?
Natural wear and tear occurs both with time and miles driven. We ensure the vehicle is thoroughly checked and the correct components replaced maintaining optimum performance and safety.
The manufacturer designs a specific service schedule for the lifetime of your vehicle. Our award-winning technicians ensure this is adhered to.
We’ll always carry out the right service for your vehicle. Below is an example on the areas covered.
Typical BMW Service Checklist
Lighting & Visibility – Front and rear lighting is thoroughly checked for correct operation. Additional visibility items such as glass, wipers are inspected along with exterior mirrors and registration plates.
Steering, Drive, and Suspension – A comprehensive check of all joints, gaiters and wheel bearings is carried out. This is followed by an inspection of the front and rear shock absorbers and road springs.
Vehicle Interior – A thorough inspection is conducted of the seat belts, horn, hazard lighting, as well as all vehicle controls. We’ll also ensure the correct operation of the driver displays noting any warning messages.
Under Bonnet – A full visual inspection is carried out ensuring no leaks exist and all components are serviceable. Where applicable service items such as air filter, oil filter, sparks plugs, drive belts, etc are replaced.
Braking – Front and rear brake components are checked and measured so that service life can be reported upon.
Under Vehicle – After removal of the under trays the engine oil is drained and transmission checked for leaks.
Tyre Inspection – All road wheels and tyres are inspected for serviceability and pressures adjusted prior to refitting. Where applicable the spare wheel is inspected or inflation kit checked for operation.
Final Checks – To conclude the service the brake fluid and antifreeze are tested and the engine filled with new oil. Finally, the vehicle is road tested and service book or on online service record updated.
